About This Pickup Truck
My understanding about my own Studebaker Transtar truck is that it was made early in 1958. This information was obtained by deciphering the serial number inside the driver's side door. But please don't ask me for that number right now!
It's been a while since I've been able to open the driver's side door. Just started to stick one day, and, no matter how hard I try, I haven't found the magic button to get it back opened again.
Not to fear, though. Getting in and out of the passenger side of a big, long red and white Transtar truck is far from the most embarrassing I personally have experienced in Life. Besides, when you drive something as loud as the Transtar, no one notices a minor detail like that!
An oddity to me about this truck is the lack of an outside lock on the driver's side door. This particular item was an option for the truck. Apparently the original owner had a great wife who would unlock the door for him after he helped her get in on the passenger's side.
This Transtar truck has been called a number of things since we've been on the road together. Funny looking was one of the descriptions I have heard along the way. My personal favorite was when a friend called it a BAD ride the first time he saw it.
When it comes to the awards shelf, this particular Stupidbaker truck has already won an honorable mention in a show. Unfortunately it was because I entered it in an Ugly Truck Contest in Atlanta, Georgia, a couple of years ago. The positive side to receiving this type of notoriety is that there is no place to go but up, right..??
